# The Disappearance of Mr. Davenheim — nquiry Demo Case

Welcome to the nquiry demo! This guided walkthrough lets you experience the full investigation workflow using a pre-built evidence pack — no sensitive data required.

## About This Case

This case is based on *"The Adventure of the Disappearance of Mr. Davenheim"* from Agatha Christie's *Poirot Investigates* (1924), now in the public domain ([read it on Project Gutenberg](https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/61262)). The evidence pack adapts the story's facts into realistic investigation documents: witness statements, financial records, forensic reports, and more.

The scenario includes 30 evidence items, 5 investigation questions, a case briefing, and an evidence evaluation standard.

## Getting Started

### Step 1: Create a New Investigation

Sign in to nquiry and click **New Investigation**. Name it something like "Davenheim Disappearance." The AI Guide (bottom-right button) will help you along the way.

### Step 2: Upload the Case Briefing

Go to **Settings → Background Documents** and upload `case-briefing.md` from this pack. This gives nquiry the background context it needs.

### Step 3: Upload the Evaluation Standard (Optional)

Also in **Settings → Framework Documents**, upload `evidence-evaluation-standard.md`. This provides nquiry with financial investigation criteria to apply during analysis.

### Step 4: Enter Investigation Questions

Go to **Questions** and enter these five questions (also found in `investigation-questions.md`):

1. **Primary:** What happened to Matthew Davenheim?
2. Who is responsible for the safe burglary at The Cedars?
3. Is Mr. Lowen implicated in either the disappearance or the burglary?
4. What does the financial evidence suggest about Davenheim's state of mind and planning prior to 10 June?
5. What is the connection between Billy Kellett and the Davenheim case?

### Step 5: Upload All 30 Evidence Items

Go to **Evidence** and click **Bulk Upload**. Select all 30 evidence files (the ones starting with `EV-`). They'll upload in one batch. Each file is named with an EV-### prefix so they sort naturally.

### Step 6: Link Evidence to Questions

After uploading, link each evidence item to the question(s) it's relevant to. Some evidence items relate to multiple questions. This step helps nquiry's AI find the right evidence during analysis.

### Step 7: Run the Analysis

Go to **Analysis** and click **Generate Analysis**. nquiry will analyze the evidence against your questions, apply the evaluation framework, and produce findings with confidence levels and citations. Review the results, check quality metrics, and see how the AI connected evidence to conclusions.

**Tip:** This demo uses about 5–8 of your trial's 25 AI credits, leaving plenty for exploring other features or trying your own investigation.

## What to Expect

A good analysis should:

- Identify that Davenheim staged his own disappearance
- Connect Kellett to Davenheim through the physical and behavioral evidence
- Recognize the embezzlement pattern in the financial evidence
- Correctly assess Lowen as not implicated (set up as a patsy)
- Identify the jewellery purchases as wealth conversion, not genuine gifts
- Flag the Buenos Aires trip as inconsistent with its stated purpose
- Recognize the fingerprint match as definitive proof

The case is designed with red herrings (suspicious car, false public sightings, Lowen as apparent suspect) and noise evidence that a strong analysis should identify and appropriately weigh.
